Dirty Little Secret: Liverpool's Newest Speakeasy

Dirty Little Secret Bar

I used to really enjoy going on nights out. When I was at University, I was out practically every night.

As I've gotten a little older, I've lost interest in going to clubs to stand at a bar for twenty minutes before getting served, shouting at my friends so they can hear me, and my shoes sticking to the floor all night (looking at you K3). So when I was invited to try Liverpool's newest speakeasy bar, with promises of relaxed vibes and cocktails, I obviously jumped at the chance. I'm a big fan of secret bars, so this had a lot to live up to.

Located at the bottom of Wood Street, Dirty Little Secret is plonked right in the middle of the Liverpool club scene. As I made my way upstairs, through a staircase dressed in lanterns and umbrellas, it felt like it could be literally anyone's guess as to what I was about to let myself in for here.

Morrocan style lanterned and tapestries adorned the walls of Dirty Little Secret, making this feel more like a cafe than a bar. One half of the bar is full of couches and cushions, while the other half caters for the more energetic of us with a dance floor and DJ booth.

The cocktail menu offered is definitely one of the more adventurous and original I've seen from most bars in Liverpool. It offers up the Cereal Thriller, a cocktail featuring Nutella, vanilla and cacao liqueurs, and it comes in a fucking Coco Pops box. My personal favourite was the Big Fat Zombie. I ordered expecting a normal Zombie, which is my absolute favourite ever cocktail, and it came in a stein that was as big as my head (Trust me, that's huge). After a couple of those, I was more than happy to shake my way on over to the bar, dancing to No Scrub thinking I'm a fucking background dancer for TLC, while I grab myself another.

I had such a great night with Danielle, Jessi and Ste, and would not hesitate to go back. I was very pleasantly surprised at how Dirty Little Secret managed to be a cut above the rest in Wood Street. If you're looking for a night out in Liverpool City Centre with the girls or just a quiet date night, Dirty Little Secret is the one for you, and it won't even ruin your shoes. Promise.

  1. Well this is definitely unique! Even though I don't drink, I'd still love to visit, as I bet they make some cracking mocktails judging from the effort they put into their cocktails!
